Interesting Nursery Rhymes

People seem very concerned about the influence of movies on a younger audience. We have a Censorship Board and rating system to help us decide what age group a motion picture is recommended for.
We put a lot of thought into the kind of exposure children should get.
Ever thought about the content in the most popular Nursery rhymes that children learn as soon
as they start communicating verbally?
It was interestingly funny to notice that most of the Nursery rhymes are somewhat barbaric. I know I am exaggerating but I couldn’t stop laughing when I went over many rhymes and found something crazy in almost all of them.

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
In this nursery rhyme the Kids fall down and hurt themselves while doing a simple task of fetching water.
Lesson learnt: Clumsiness?

It gets better...READ ON...

Solomon Grundy,
Born on a Monday,
Christened on Tuesday,
Married on Wednesday,
Took ill on Thursday,
Grew worse on Friday,
Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday.
This is the end
Of Solomon Grundy

A man lives his life and dies within a week in this rhyme. Is there no better way to teach the kids about the days in a week? There's more to than meets the eye. Here children also learn about what happens after marriage.

Piggy on the Railway
Picking up stones;
Down came an engine,
And broke Piggy’s bones. ‘Ah !’ said Piggy,
“That’s not fair,”
“Oh !” said the engine driver,
“I don’t care !”

So children, if you are planning on picking stones on the railway...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three blind mice,
See how they run!
They all ran after a farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife.
Did you ever see such a sight in your life,
As three blind mice?

No we have not seen such a sight but thanks for painting the pretty picture in the children's heads !

One little, two little, three little Indians
Four little, five little, six little Indians
Seven little, eight little, nine little Indians
Ten little Indian boys.
Ten little, nine little, eight little Indians
Seven little, six little, five little Indians
Four little, three little, two little Indians
One little Indian boy.

Now this one is probably manifested by the citizens of USA. It originated in America to teach the kids how to count and may be to bring to their notice the increase in the Number of Indians settling in USA:P Its interesting how it goes reverse and ends with "One little Indian boy" Something to think about eh?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are others too like Humpty Dumpty breaks into pieces that cannot be put back together, Little Miss Muffet cannot have her curd because a Spider scares her away, London bridge is falling down etc..but I guess the Nursey Rhymes mentioned above are enough to bring my point to your notice.

Small story about wants

You cannot help but think about your wants when you have
to make choices. I had to make one today and since I am always on the fence, not being sure about my wants in life so far.. made things worse.

And then it happened......

In the process of self interrogation a disturbing question made its appearance. Like an unwanted brush stroke on a painting thats getting ugly already.

With the contingency of being mentally distressed I finally asked myself..is it that I never experienced that magic in life that makes one want something badly? Something that speaks to you and tells you a story by the end of which you are only left craving for more?
A story that you wish is told forever. A story that never ends.

I asked myself
"Was the story ever told to me or am I a bad listener?"
The thought that I might be residing in a world of addicts and have not tasted my drug yet was alarming.

Some time passed..and I did what any mortal(who wishes or chooses to survive for unknown reasons) would do. Console myself.

I told myself maybe there is no story.
May be there are just fairytales.

May be I should make a choice based on my reality instead of wondering about stories that I might have or might miss.

Thats when I made my choice.

I decided to write my own story.
